More than Pleasant at Pheasant

The Pheasant Inn is in a lovely location overlooking rolling Cheshire fields scattered with hedges and trees. The standard room that we occupied was smallish, but very nice. I wouldn't hesitate to book this size again, but some folk might find it a tight squeeze if travelling with a lot of ...more»

The Lounge Lunch in Chester

Upstairs in one of Chester's famous rows, The Amber Lounge (Cocktail/Lounge Bar/Restaurant) was our lunch stop while visiting Chester for a day. The style of food at the Amber Lounge is typical Gastro-Pub fayre. It was all well cooked and tasty. I opted for a Steak and Red Onion Chutney Sandwich, ...more»

A Quick Meal in Llandudno

We had a quick dinner at the Fat Cat Bar/Restaurant in September 2008. The atmosphere is quite nice, somewhat typical of a Gastro-Pub. Mrs Swiss had a Cream of Corn Soup with 4 large chunks of bread. It was very good. I enjoyed a steak sandwich... a little chewy, but not ...more»

At the Edge of Wales

The Gwesty Ty Newydd has undergone renovations before re-opening for summer 2008. The resulting hotel is a very nice surprise in this small village that feels like 'the edge of Wales'. Our room (Room One) had a huge bathroom/wetroom with a large open shower. There was no bath in the room, which ...more»

Inn the Pembrokeshire Countryside

The Stackpole Inn is a traditional country inn sitting in the centre of the small southern Wales village of Stackpole. From the north, the approach to Bickley Mill is along a beautiful winding country lane. The mill itself sits right in the middle of a quiet, narrow, and slightly dark valley. An overnight experience in this cute stone building includes good food, a great atmosphere, friendly staff, well-cooked breakfast, and a ...more»

Utterly Let Down by Poor Service

Having previously stayed at the Hotel Bemelmans Post while showing my parents Europe, I thought it might be a nice place to return to with Mrs Swiss. My memories of the food and room were good. The RoomFor this visit we reserved a Villa Borghese, one of the superior, higher-priced rooms. ...more»

Wonderful Dinner in Gstaad

Although we have always chosen to stay at the Hotel Gstaaderhof when enjoying a weekend in Gstaad, we never forget to visit the fantastic Restaurant Stafel in the Hotel Bernerhof for dinner at least once. The Stafel is decorated with a typical cozy wooden interior common to mountain chalets. The atmosphere ...more»

Quality, Authentic Japanese in London

One night in September, we stumbled upon 'Ikkyusan', an  authentic Japanese restaurant near Leicester Square in London (Correction: The food is authentic, the staff were Chinese... but most wouldn't notice this). I quickly ordered my favourite Japanese dish 'Katsu Don' (Rice in a bowl, with a Pork Cutlet, and normally covered ...more»

Sensible ‘Value for Money’ in Greater London

Recently, when in London for two nights, we chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Brent Cross. Some might suggest that a 20 minute tube ride into town is too much... but I disagree. We chose this hotel because it stood out as the nicest HI or other Intercontinental Hotel Group ...more»
